Since the advent of the internet, artists of all sorts have been using it to express their creativity and passion. With the proliferation of user-generated-content platforms like YouTube, homegrown storytelling has become the mainstream.
It’s ubiquity is certain – over ten hours of content is uploaded to YouTube every sixty seconds – but it’s the quality of the videos that’s starting to really blow me away. Is it the amateurs who are becoming more professional, or is it that more professionals are contributing to the common pool? Either way, we are living in an amazing era of creativity, spawned by the seemingly insatiable drive to share our stories with one another. Creativity for the sake of it. In this case, we are living in fortunate times.
Here are some of my favourite videos:
Never, ever, ever, ever give up
An animated graffiti. Simply amazing.
The ultimate remix
“Yes We Can” – I hope
The ultimate in “revisionist fiction”: “High Tech Noon”
Over 50 million people have laughed with this little guy
43 million are amazed at this kid’s skill
These guys are nuts. I want to be them
Watch the world with this Second Life build in Vincent’s honor.
A political agenda, with amazing graphic and animation skill
A prediction to where this is all headed

Great post Colin. These are indeed fortunate times. Artists and storytellers have never had it better. These videos offer proof of that.

Terrific choices, thanks Collin. To these, I’d have to add two of my favourites:
1. The inimitable Michael Wesch: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6gmP4nk0EOE
2. This Japanese dude with the most remarkable contact juggling skills: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6iC3b5JnSIE
