[Update: I have written a follow-up post to this with the latest top ten fanpages on Facebook with deeper insights in determining best practices here]
Facebook Pages have been out for several months now in an effort to create a better brand experience for both advertisers and users of this leading social network.
From Facebook:
Every Facebook Page is a unique experience where users can become more deeply connected with your business or brand. Users can express their support by adding themselves as a fan, writing on your Wall, uploading photos, and joining other fans in discussion groups. You can send updates to your fans regularly — or just with special news or offers. Add applications to your Page and engage your users with videos, reviews, flash content, and more.
A quick audit of the most popular Facebook Pages today turned up some interesting surprises:
- Barack Obama, with more than twice the fans than that of his closest runner up (in this case, The Chris Moyles Show), tops the list with nearly 786, 000 supporters.
- The BBC has earned two positions in the top ten with the mysterious “Stig” earning #4 and “Top Gear” earning tenth position.
- Only two branded products have made the top ten. Victoria’s Secret PINK comes in at #3, and Ticketmaster United States cashes in at #6. There are some indications however, that Ticketmaster may have rocked the vote to claim this position.

It’s hard to tell what’s more striking: who’s here or who isn’t. The following chart shows top Facebook Pages ranked by category type. Universal rank is listed on the left.

Thanks for an interesting post – I’ve got a cartoon blog and am trying to figure out the best way of using facebook pages to promote the cartoons on fb… particularly to people who are not RSS email subscribers. Is there any way of linking the feed from my site directly to the facebook page?
