IKEA Hacker, my god, the genius

IKEA HACKER

We have a lot to learn from the Swedes. For instance, how do they make a profit serving a meatball lunch for a buck? Or how do they compress an entertainment wall unit down so tight it can fit into a surfboard case? How do they know I’ll love something for exactly one year, toss it, and go back for more?

No matter how hard you try, it’s difficult not to love IKEA. And even though their furniture basically explodes the first time you move with it, you have to admit, it’s still a steal for the price.

Given the ‘WOM‘ buzz generated with each edition of a catalogue or sale, it seemed inevitable that social media and IKEA would eventually cross paths. Recently, a friend told me to check out IKEAhacker, a blog that literally teaches you how to hack ikea stuff into new, better or other… stuff.

From the horses mouth:

WANTED: your ikea hacks. whatever they may be – a funked up karlanda sofa, an ingenious idea for your pax wardrobe, a creative twist on your kitchen countertop, you’ve spent hours on your ikea hack. now it’s time flaunt it

Just create your ikea hack instructable on the instructables ikea hacks group and it will be automatically syndicated to this site to be enjoyed by ikeahacker readers. how cool is that?

Pretty damn cool.

I don’t think I’ve ever made a trip to IKEA without stopping by the AS IS department before checking out. There’s always a great deal to be had there. Imagine if IKEA allowed us to mash furniture from one kit with another to create some sort of FrÃ¥nkenshëlf, or hÿbrÃ¥d-dêsk-a-cõuch’n? IKEAhacker is the starting playground for such a monster. One guy actually fished an IKEA table top out of the AS IS department for $15 and hacked 3 high-end electric guitars from the wood. Amazing.

Check out these other awesome IKEAhacks:

LACK + EXPEDIT = DJ Console
BAREN X 2 = Electric Razor Wall Holster

IKEA hacker? A radical do.
Enthusiastically added to the ‘feed’.

I have never skipped the AS IS dept of IKEA; in fact I often ONLY go there so to avoid the crack-habit of trailing through rooms full of new stuff I do not need!

I laughed outloud at your phrase, “Frånkenshëlf, or hÿbråd-dêsk-a-cõuch’”!! My husband, an avid do-it-yourself (with a lazy streak as big as Texas), perennially tells me not to buy something because, he says, “I can make that!”

Ergo… the mashup between my penchant for AS IS furniture from Ikea and his bent for homemade might produce some wild stuff! Needless to say, I sent him the link to IKEAHacker as soon as I read your blog entry!

    Good evening

I can t understand what is that project. Is it an IKEA work or a users project. Can you tell about it?

    TIA

It seems this is not affiliated with Ikea officially. However, it is working well for Ikea! They should probably be paying this guy.

    cheers
