I’m Ready to Tell You “My Secret” Now…

My Secret
I recently picked up a copy of “My Secret,” a book compiled by Frank Warren. Originally created as a web-based community art project back in 2004, this new collection of never-seen-before postcards features deeply personal confessions from ordinary people using an extraordinary platform. This book is a follow up to the best seller “Post Secret,” and both books are based on the wildly successful blog, PostSecret.com.

PostSecret.com continues to be a glowing example as to why the web exists (no, not for marketing) … for expression of the human condition, available to anybody willing/able to access it. Each user-created piece is an amazing work of art.

Postcards range from the tragic:

“My mom puts a star on the calendar for every day I don’t cut myself … I don’t deserve 5 of those stars,”

to the silly:

“I drool … a lot”

from the disturbing:

“I cheated my way through paramedic school,”

to common blunders:

“I used to think the Sistine chapel was called the 16th chapel!”

I think the folks at PostSecret are radically trusting us to buy their books
to keep them going. I can endorse that (for now!) because they’re providing
a platform for some serious therapy, and I believe the overall motivation is
inherently good. The product is a creative way to remind us that the web is
composed of people wanting to make real connections, even if anonymous.

Pick up a copy to support this effort. With three million monthly visits and
no banner or Google ads, their claim to being the largest blog on the web
sans advertising is likely legitimate.

Good stuff.

I bought a copy of the original and I am a huge fan of the site. Few sites take me from genuine laughter to genuine sympathy and back again as quickly as postsecret. I had to support them. Will probably buy the new one as well.
