Radical Trust Review: MOO Mini Cards

Moo Mini Cards

Title: MOO Mini Cards
URL: http://www.moo.com
Type: Custom Printed Mini Business Cards using Flickr photos.

The Horses Mouth:

The web. You can’t touch it, write on it or put it on the mantle. You can’t hang it on the wall or pass it to the cutie on the bus and you certainly can’t give it to your mum for her birthday.

MOO want to change all this. We dream up new products, personalised by your stuff on the web, that let you take that virtual life offline. We hope you like them.

My Take:

Several weeks ago I received an urgent email from a family member to visit a website that turns Flickr photos into business cards. “10 free if you order now!”. There was a limited run, and I was assured regret if attention was not paid immediately.

Skeptically, I followed the link. I was pleased with the simple process of framing my photos onto some cards and writing some content for the backside. It’s truly clever how MOO coded seamless integration with Flickr but I assumed the promotion would fall apart once I saw the printed piece. The experience so far was fun, but I was not about to hold my breathe for delivery.

It is wrong to assume.

A week or two later a discreet envelope showed up in my snail box with UK postage, (I am in Canada) my thoughts raced back to this promotion. I was truly excited to see how they did.

I tore in with child-like anticipation to find the amazingly tight DM package. A small box, about the size of a pack of Beemans gum, was snot-glued to a postcard with seamless graphic integration. The MOO logo, cleverly die cut in the box enabled my thumb to slip out 10 customized cards with ease. Each card featured a unique photograph the way I composed it on the front and the copy as I wrote and formatted it on the back.

I flipped through my 10 cards, nostalgically recalling the penguins of the Falkland Islands, a recent assignment to the Calgary Stampede, my wife in her Zombie Walk flash mob and a trip to Niagara Falls I took last spring. Finally, there was an extra card telling me that I was their new best friend. My ego was sufficiently satisfied.

This package is one of the best integrated web 2.0 and direct mail projects I have ever seen. Although the free promotion is over, I recommend that you reward yourself with their effort.
